“Anorexia ranks as the 3rd most common chronic illness among adolescent U.S. females,” according to MEDA (Multi-service eating disorder organization) report. Not bronchitis or diabetes (as many might think), but a life-threatening eating disorder that causes devastating havoc in the minds and bodies of young ones.

Being prone to disordered eating (from 20% to 67%), college and university students are at an increased risk of developing eating disorder behaviors. As they get through a tough transition from high school to college, eating disorder diagnoses increase, as reported by “Eating disorders” (National Institute of Mental Health). According to the “Eating Disorder Symptoms Among College Students: Prevalence, Persistence, Correlates, and Treatment-Seeking” research, “2% of females and 0.2% of males reported a previous diagnosis of bulimia, and 4% of females and 1% of males reported vomiting or taking laxatives to lose weight in the previous 30 days.” Being most common eating pathologies, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder tend to start during the first years in college. It turns out that being away from home becomes a powerful catalyst for anorexia and bulimia.
